Protecting your Hardwood Floors
You always want to be protecting your hardwood floors and keeping them looking great and maintaining their value in your home. Here are some tips for you to do just that!
- Wood is a natural product. It is used to having humidity levels between 35% and 55% and temperatures between 60 and 80 degrees fahrenheit. To ensure a long life, keep your HVAC system active.
- Sweep or vacuum regularly. Grim and dirty build up can damage the wood. If you vacuum make sure that it uses a brush or felt type head and do not use it if the vacuum uses a beater bar head. Be certain the wheels of the vacuum are clean as well and will not damage the finish.
- Remove spills promptly using a soft cloth and cleaning products.
- Never mop or flood your floor with water or other products, this can really damage the flooring.
- Do not use oil soaps, liquid or paste wax products or other household cleaners that contain lemon oil, tung oil or ammonia.
- If you have pets then be sure to clip their nails when needed and keep their paws clean.
- Use a dolly and protective sheets of plywood when transporting heavy objects through a hardwood floored room.
- Make certain all furniture on the hardwood floor have protectors at least 1 inch thick.
