Pros and Cons of Granite Floor Tiles

Pros and cons of granite floor tiles
Because of it’s reputation for being a luxurious surface many homeowners are drawn to granite. Being available as a floor tile, granite can be seen in some kitchens, bathrooms and hallways. Here are the pros and cons you should be aware of before making a decision to buy this flooring or not.

Pros:

  • Appearance: gives an elegant, sophisticated look to the room it is installed in and is available in many colors and styles to fit many situations.
  • Durable: Among other natural stone floorings, granite is one of the hardest, and can withstand nearly anything dropped, spilled or placed on it.
  • Low maintenance: stain resistant, and highly durable makes this flooring option very low maintenance. Sweeping and mopping on a weekly basis keeps it looking great. Reapplying a sealant to maintain the color and smooth surface periodically as well.

Cons:

  • Difficult to install: The installation of granite is usually harder than other types of floorings because it requires a perfectly level subfloor that offers enough support for the heavy stone.
  • Slippery: Polished to give it a glossy finish but also makes it very slippery when wet.
  • Cold: This flooring option is so thick and dense that it cannot conduct heat as well as other flooring options.
