Maintaining Your Floors When You Have Pets

Your pets aren’t perfect all the time, accidents happen. There are a few simple ways to keep your floors clean after it has already happened.

Pet Urine

First, soak the spot as much as possible, apply a cleaning solution and leave for at least five minutes. Rinse the area with cold water and with a white paper towel. If it happened on carpet then stand on the area briefly with a towel before soaking to soak some of it up.

Dirt

Pets that go outside are going to bring dirt inside with them, it is just gonna happen and there isn’t much you can do about it. Luckily all you need to do for the dirt that comes in the vacuum up as much as you can. For the dirt or mud spots that form in high traffic areas, apply a cleaning solution and leave it on for five minutes. Rinse with cold water and cover with a white paper towel until dry.

Cleaning Solutions

You can make cleaning solutions but you should always test the solution on a small, out-of-the-way spot of your carpet before using it on a large stain
  • Detergent Solution: Mix 1/4 teaspoon mild dish soap with 1 cup of warm water
  • Vinegar Solution: Mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar with 4 cups of warm water
