Glazed Ceramic Tile
A glazed ceramic tile comes in a matte, semi-gloss or high-gloss finish. They are coated with glass-forming minerals and ceramic tiles. They can also come in different finishes.
The glazed ceramic tile offers better moisture and stain resistance than unglazed tile. However, the high-gloss finish is very slippery and is also prone to scratch. But the matte and other textured finishes deals better with traction and scratches. Additionally, they are also more capable of keeping dirt less visible.
Unglazed Ceramic Tile
This tile is harder and denser than the glazed type. They may come in different surface treatments and textures. However, unglazed ceramic tile is usually installed outside the home because they don’t fair good against the glazed tile when it comes to protection against stains. They do provide good slip resistance and requires tight sealing to improve its stain resistance.
Porcelain Ceramic Tile
Porcelain tile is made up of 50% feldspar and is developed under a much higher fired temperature than the two mentioned above. This process makes the porcelain tile the hardest and densest of the three. And because of its extreme durability, it has the highest resistance against scratches and is capable of withstanding extreme features.
The porcelain ceramic tile is also highly stain resistant and low moisture absorption rating. Between the three, it is most ideal for both interior and exterior applications. Scratches, chips, and dirt are also far less noticeable in a porcelain ceramic tile.
The Size
Now that you’ve decided which type of ceramic floor you are going with, you now need to decide the size tile is best for your room. In this case, you need to consider the size of the room and not the size of tile. Most people think that if a room is small, it calls for small tiles. This is not always true because using a larger size tile in a small room helps increase the size of your room, visually. The point here is that you need to scale the size of your room carefully to give it a more balanced visual look once the tiles are installed!
